Farthinghoe Working Parties

March 2019 working party..

This was the last working party of the winter season...
We tackled the last bit of scrub clearing on Teasel bank and Central bank to complete the task of cutting back all the encroaching scrub along the rides, paths and meadows, creating a corridor with sunlight and dappled shade from the far end of the western meadow right the way to the bridge. This will benefit the flora to grow and encourage the butterflies and other insects to move around the reserve more freely rather than be isolated to meadows and glades.

Mark and Abby bopped a few posts in down the steps for a handrail as well...

This task was completed in April and the handrail now descends down the steps of Teasel bank so hopefully making it a steadier descent for some of you..

February 2019 working party..

Despite the pouring rain a band of 14 merry volunteers turned up and basically got soaked!..
But...What a job they did..
Despite it being wet we cut and cleared some scrub on the edge of the top damp meadow that had encroached and was shading over the meadow..
Thank you.. and a well deserved reward..
Too right!! Delicious Bacon butties cooked on a BBQ by Tracy and Lin. well done ladies!!

January 2019 working party..

A cracking mornings work from the crew today clearing all the damp meadow area.. Exciting find were the 21 Bee Orchid rosette..The most we have ever recorded.
We also pollarded the Willow by the seat and laid the branches on the ground to decay.. Hopefully in a few years time it will be ideal for Scarlet Elfcup to colonise..
